TODAY'S STORY
Shaggy Hair

Shaggy haired woman trying so hard to loose the bonds that bind her to the constant swirl of chaos and misery. None of it is her doing. At heart she is childlike and carefree but she lives in a house steeped in sadness. The sadness does not belong there but no one seems strong enough to drive it away. No one seems to stand up to its deceitful and mangy ways.

One day she got a plan. She figured out a way to drive that low down, lying, nasty ***** away for good. She knew it would work. When she got an idea in her head she'd keep picking at it until it was fully realized. She knew she'd beat it. She knew she'd win so she smiled. No, she beamed.

Telling Tales

One more day 'til the start of dedicated writing in the month of November. This is good--I need the discipline. Oh, don't get me wrong, I write everyday--I keep a work journal. However, I don't write stories everyday. That's where I need the discipline. Afterall, life is one big continuous story. Why not write about it?

Okay, enough about me. Jeanette Winterson is a writer who always has interesting tales to tell.

Story one: Tanglewreck

A little way in the future, time is distorting. Time Tornadoes are causing havoc. People are whirled out of their own time, never to return, and a Woolly Mammoth has been seen on the banks of the River Thames.

But time is big business, and whoever gets control of time controls life as we know it!

Read the first two chapters Jeanette Winterson's new book for children.

Read The Times profile.

Oh, Write!

In the last post, I announced my participation in NaNoWriMo. Well, I bit off a bit more and signed up to participate in NaBloPoMo, too.

Huh?

National Blog Posting Month! It's an event being hosted by fussy at fussy.org. (Fair warning: Some of the language on her site is a bit strong).

NaBloPoMo is an alternative to November's NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, the program wherein you crank out a novel in thirty days.

I heard about it a few days after I'd announced that I would begin daily posting as of 10/29/06. Serendipity? Maybe. Let's just say that I'm psyched to be a part of each event.

The challenge now is to stay the course. Phew! Let's hope I make it.

Cheers,

EXCUSE ME

Please pardon the long stretches between posts. I have been so busy with other projects. Truly, the neglect stops today. I cannot tell you how much I love blogging--every budding (or established) writer is provided with an opportunity for instant gratification AND publication. The rise of pod and vidcasting only makes the pot sweeter. YUM!

Okay, enough gushing...time for real business. Here's what's on tap for this blog:
  1. Refine the Focus
My blogging style has been very scattered. It makes me appear to be a jumbled mess (which, at times, is probably accurate). However, the purpose of this blog was AND is to tell stories, to write stories, to read stories, to view stories and to listen to stories. I need to get back to that.

  2. Revise the Layout
Since I believe the content should be the primary focus, I will stick to the minimalist look but elements will be added to make site navigation easier. (I might dress up the color a bit, too.)

  3. Add some Cool Features
Podcasting and vidcasting (just the bees knees) and other cool tech will make this a hot site.

I've also signed up for National Novel Writing Month which begins November 1st so we'll be following my progress on this blog.

That's it for now. Expect daily updates beginning October 29th.

Thanks for your patience.
